Root: K-F-L (ك ف ل)


Form: Dual Noun

Two Shares/Portions.


Implies two distinct, equal parts of a whole. Used here for mercy; specifically interpreted as a portion for believing in previous prophets and a portion for believing in Muhammad (PBUH), or light in this world and the Hereafter. "...He will give you Kiflayn (two portions) of His mercy..."

Al-Qasas 28:54

مَرَّتَيْنِ


(Marratayn)

Root: M-R-R (م ر ر)


Form: Dual Noun

Two Times/Instances.


Indicates repetition of the act of rewarding. Refers here to People of the Book who embraced Islam; they are rewarded once for their previous faith and once for their belief in the Quran. "Those will be given their reward Marratayn (twice)..."
