Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ

Aʿūdhu billāhi mina sh‑shayṭāni r‑rajīm. Bismillāh ir‑Raḥmān ir‑Raḥīm

The Anatomy of Oneness

The declaration of Essence, removing all spatial, temporal, and biological contingencies from the "Establisher."

[112:1.a] কুল (قُلْ, qul, "Say"; √Q-W-L "vocalize" · [Breath-shaping] → [Commanded speech] → [Prophetic mandate]; ∴ Divine command necessitating public vocalization of internal conviction ⚒ Breath-pushed decree ∞ Sound as the primary witness)

[112:1.b] হুয়াল্লাহু (هُوَ اللَّهُ, huwa-llāhu, "He is Allah"; [Pronoun + Proper Name] · [Pointing toward Presence] → [The Unique Name] → [The Essence]; ∴ Absolute identification of the One pointed toward by the soul ⚒ The Pointed Presence ∞ The Name containing all Names)

[112:1.c] আহাদ (أَحَدٌ, ʾaḥad, "One/Unique"; √ʾ-Ḥ-D "unity" · [Point-singularity] → [Indivisible] → [Absolute uniqueness]; ∴ Oneness that admits no second, no parts, and no division ⚒ Point-Singular ∞ The Infinite Zero) Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One"

ﷺ "Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ is equivalent to one-third of the Qur'ān" [Bukhārī]

[112:2.a] আল্লাহু (اللَّهُ, allāhu, "Allah"; [Proper Name] · [The Adored] → [The Center of Need]; ∴ Reiteration of the Name as the ground of all existence ⚒ The Center-Point ∞ The Gravity of Souls)

[112:2.b] আসসামাদ (الصَّمَدُ, aṣ-ṣamad, "the Eternal Refuge/Solid"; √Ṣ-M-D "solid/plugged" · [Solid rock without hollow/void] → [One whom all need/who needs none]; ∴ The dense, self-sufficient reality upon which all things lean ⚒ The Unhollowed Rock ∞ The Fullness without void) Allah, the Eternal Refuge

ﷺ "Allah is the One to whom people turn for their needs" [Ibn Abbas]

[112:3.a] লাম ইয়ালিদ (لَمْ يَلِدْ, lam yalid, "He neither begets"; √W-L-D "birth" · [Emanation/Extension of self] → [Biological reproduction]; ∴ Denial of any ontological "offshoot" or material derivation ⚒ No-Seed ∞ Beyond biological lineage)

[112:3.b] ওয়া লাম ইউলাদ (وَلَمْ يُولَدْ, wa lam yūlad, "nor is He begotten"; √W-L-D "birth" · [Being birthed/sourced] → [Temporal beginning]; ∴ Negation of a preceding cause or origin; He is the Uncaused ⚒ No-Womb ∞ The Causeless Cause) He neither begets nor is He begotten

ﷺ "Allah said: The son of Adam disbelieved Me... by saying I have a son" [Bukhārī]

[112:4.a] ওয়া লাম ইয়াকুন (وَلَمْ يَكُنْ, wa lam yakun, "And there is not"; √K-W-N "existence" · [Being/becoming] → [State of existence]; ∴ Total negation of potentiality in comparison to Him ⚒ Static-Non-Becoming ∞ The Is-ness of God)

[112:4.b] লাহু (لَهُ, lahū, "for Him"; [Preposition + Pronoun] · [Directional possession]; ∴ Exclusive belonging to His Essence ⚒ Directional Pivot ∞ The Self-Contained)

[112:4.c] কুফুওয়ান (كُفُوًا, kufuwan, "equivalent/equal"; √K-F-ʾ "equal/match" · [Lid for a pot/matching pair] → [Parity/Equality]; ∴ Absence of any peer, spouse, or horizontal comparison ⚒ The Matching-Lid ∞ The Peerless Mirror)

[112:4.d] আহাদ (أَحَدٌ, ʾaḥad, "anyone/one"; √ʾ-Ḥ-D "unity" · [Single point]; ∴ Final seal of uniqueness, closing the circle of the Surah ⚒ The Closing Point ∞ The Circle Completed) And there is none co-equal/equivalent to Him.

ﷺ "There is no one more patient against insult than Allah... they attribute a son to Him" [Bukhārī]

Exegesis / Explanatory Notes

  • Theological Nucleus: This Surah serves as the definitive definition of Tawḥīd (Monotheism), stripping the concept of God of all anthropomorphic or pagan sediment.

  • Linguistic Architecture: The shift from Aḥad (v. 1) to Ṣamad (v. 2) moves from "Singularity" to "Self-Sufficiency." Ṣamad is a rich term implying a solid structure that has no interior void (hollow), contrasting Divine Fullness with human emptiness/need.

  • Refutation: Verse 3 directly negates the logic of the Meccan polytheists (who claimed angels were daughters of God), the Christians (sonship), and the Jews (Ezra as son), as well as the Greek "Emanationist" philosophies.

  • Symmetry: The Surah begins with Aḥad and ends with Aḥad, creating a perfect linguistic circle representing the Alpha and Omega.
