Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Inward Shield: While Surah al-Falaq deals with external threats (magic, envy, darkness), an-Nas targets the internal "parasite" that compromises the heart's integrity.
Structural Symmetry: The surah uses three Divine Titles (Rab, Malik, Ilah) to counteract the "Waswas," suggesting that the whisperer's threat is so insidious it requires a total immersion in Divine attributes.
Linguistic Roots of Humanity: "An-Nas" (√N-W-S) relates to "oscillation" and "swaying," reflecting the fickle, easily influenced nature of the human psyche.
The Onomatopoeia of Evil: Waswasa mimics the sound of soft rustling or jewelry clinking—it is a repetitive, low-energy frequency designed to bypass the conscious filter (Q 7:20).
The Slinking (Khunnas): This is a paleo-image of a retreating animal. It highlights the weakness of the tempter; he has no power of coercion (sultan), only the power of suggestion, which evaporates upon dhikr (remembrance).
