The Divine Mandate:
(36:1) Ya-Sin (yā sīn; vocative‑letters/symbolic‑sound).
(36:2) By the Quran (wa-l-qurʾān; reading‑gathering) full of wisdom (al-ḥakīm; restraining‑bridle/firmly‑knit).
(36:3) Indeed you (innaka; emphatic‑pointer) are among the messengers (al-mursalīn; released‑ones).
(36:4) On a path (ʿalā ṣirāṭ; swallow‑road/clear‑way) that is straight (mustaqīm; standing‑upright).
(36:5) A revelation sent down (tanzīl; successive‑descent) by the Exalted in Might (al-ʿazīz; strong‑fortress), the Merciful (al-raḥīm; womb‑bond).
(36:6) That you may warn (li-tundhira; bare‑signaling) a people whose fathers were not warned (mā undhira; signaled‑alert), so they are heedless (ghāfilūn; neglecting/unmarked).
The Fetters of Denial:
(36:7) The Word has proved true (ḥaqqa l-qawl; landed‑solidly/struck) against most of them, so they do not believe (lā yuʾminūn; secure‑trust).
(36:8) We have placed (jaʿalnā; set‑made) around their necks (fī aʿnāqihim; stalk‑throats) shackles (aghlālan; ring‑collars) reaching to the chins (ilā l-adhqān; beard‑bones), so their heads are forced up (muqmaḥūn; camel‑refusing‑water/rigid‑lift).
(36:9) And We placed (wa-jaʿalnā; set‑made) before them a barrier (min bayni aydīhim saddan; mountain‑dam/obstruction) and behind them a barrier (wa-min khalfihim saddan; mountain‑dam/obstruction) and covered them (fa-aghshaynāhum; enveloping‑drape) so they do not see (lā yubṣirūn; eye‑glance).
(36:10) It is the same (sawāʾun; level‑equal) to them whether you warn them (a-andhartahum; signaled‑alert) or do not warn them, they will not believe.
The Record of Traces:
(36:11) You can only warn (innamā tundhiru; bare‑signaling) one who follows (ittabaʿa; footprint‑tracking) the Remembrance (al-dhikr; invocation/mind‑mark) and fears (wa-khashiya; dry‑trembling) the Most Merciful (al-raḥmān; womb‑source) in the unseen (bi-l-ghayb; absent/hidden‑fold). So give him good tidings (fa-bashshirhu; skin‑flush/peel) of forgiveness (bi-maghfirah; helmet‑covering) and a noble reward (wa-ajr karīm; abundant‑compensation).
(36:12) Indeed, We give life (nuḥyī; breath‑reviving) to the dead (al-mawtā; lifeless‑still), and We write down (wa-naktubu; stitch‑record/book) what they sent ahead (mā qaddamū; forward‑step) and their traces (wa-āthārahum; earth‑footprints/relics). And all things (wa-kulla shayʾin; willed‑thing) We have enumerated (aḥṣaynāhu; pebble‑count) in a clear Register (fī imām mubīn; plumbing‑line/manifest‑leader).
The Messengers to the Town:
(36:13) Strike (iḍrib; hit/cast‑coin) for them a parable (mathalan; standing‑likeness) of the companions of the town (aṣḥāb al-qaryah; gathering‑settlement) when the messengers came to it (jāʾahā l-mursalūn; released‑ones).
(36:14) When We sent (arsalnā; released/sent‑forth) to them two, but they denied them (fa-kadhdhabūhumā; called‑liar), so We strengthened (fa-ʿazzaznā; reinforced/stiffened) with a third, and they said, "Indeed, we are messengers to you."
(36:15) They said, "You are only human beings (bashar; peeled‑skin/mortal) like us, and the Most Merciful has not sent down (mā anzala; descended) anything. You are only lying (takdhibūn; speaking‑falsehood)."
(36:16) They said, "Our Lord knows (rabbunā yaʿlamu; master‑knows) that we are indeed messengers to you."
(36:17) "And we are not responsible except for clear notification (al-balāgh al-mubīn; reaching‑delivery/manifest‑arrival)."
(36:18) They said, "Indeed, we see an evil omen (taṭayyarnā; bird‑divination/flying‑bad‑luck) in you. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you (la-narjumannakum; heap‑stones/execute) and there will surely touch you from us a painful punishment (ʿadhāb alīm; stinging‑torment)."
(36:19) They said, "Your evil omen (ṭāʾirukum; bird‑fate/lot) is with yourselves. Is it because you were reminded (dhukkirtum; pricked‑memory)? Nay, you are a transgressing people (qawm musrifūn; exceeding‑bounds/wasteful)."
The Man from the Farthest End:
(36:20) And there came from the farthest end (min aqṣā; distant‑edge) of the city a man running (yasʿā; pacing‑quickly/striving). He said, "O my people, follow the messengers (ittabiʿū l-mursalīn; footprint‑track)."
(36:21) "Follow those who do not ask of you a payment (ajran; hire‑wage/reward) and they are rightly guided (muhtadūn; finding‑way)."
(36:22) "And why should I not worship (aʿbudu; smooth‑service/enslave) He who created me (faṭaranī; cleft‑open/originated) and to Whom you will be returned (turjaʿūn; sent‑back)?"
(36:23) "Should I take other than Him gods (ālihatan; objects‑of‑worship)? If the Most Merciful intends for me some harm (bi-ḍurrin; emaciation/harm), their intercession will not avail me (lā tughni ʿannī; not‑enrich/suffice) at all, nor can they save me (yunqidhūn; rescue/snatch‑away)."
(36:24) "Indeed, I would then be in clear error (ḍalāl mubīn; lost‑way/straying)."
(36:25) "Indeed, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me (fa-ismaʿūn; ear‑hear)."
The Aftermath and Regret:
(36:26) It was said, "Enter Paradise (udkhul al-jannah; garden‑enclosure)." He said, "Oh, I wish my people knew" (yā layta qawmī yaʿlamūn; would‑that‑they‑knew).
(36:27) "Of how my Lord has forgiven me (ghafara lī; covered‑helmet) and placed me among the honored (al-mukramīn; noble‑generous)."
(36:28) And We did not send down (mā anzalnā; descended) upon his people after him any soldiers (jundin; army‑troop) from the heaven, nor would We have done so.
(36:29) It was not but one blast (ṣayḥah; shout/thunder‑cry), and immediately they were extinguished (khāmidūn; silent‑ash/dead‑coals).
(36:30) Alas for the servants (yā ḥasratan ʿalā l-ʿibād; deep‑sigh/grief). There never came to them a messenger (rasūl; envoy) but that they mocked him (yastahziʾūn; sneer‑joke).
(36:31) Have they not seen (alam yaraw; eye‑see) how many generations We destroyed (ahlaknā; ruined/perished) before them, that they do not return to them (lā yarjiʿūn; turn‑back)?
(36:32) And indeed, all of them (kullun lammā; all‑together) will be brought present before Us (muḥḍarūn; made‑present/attended).
Signs in the Dead Earth and the Heavens:
(36:33) And a sign (āyatun; mark/flag) for them is the dead earth (al-arḍu l-maytah; lifeless‑ground). We revived it (aḥyaynāhā; breath‑life) and brought forth from it grain (ḥabban; seed‑kernel), so from it they eat.
(36:34) And We made (jaʿalnā; set‑placed) therein gardens (jannātin; covered‑enclosures) of date palms (nakhīl; sifting‑trees) and grapevines (aʿnāb; tendril‑fruit), and We caused to burst forth (fajjarnā; cleft‑open/gush) therein springs (min al-ʿuyūn; eye‑sources).
(36:35) That they may eat (li-yaʾkulū; jaw‑chew) of its fruit (thamarihi; produce/yield) and what their hands have worked (ʿamilathu aydīhim; hand‑labored). Will they not be grateful (yashkurūn; full‑udder/thank)?
(36:36) Glory be to the One who (subḥāna alladhī; floating‑praise/far‑removed) created pairs (khalaqa l-azwāja; shaped‑mates/kinds) all of them, from what the earth grows (tunbitu; sprout‑tooth) and from themselves (anfusihim; breath‑souls) and from what they do not know.
(36:37) And a sign for them is the night (al-layl; darkness‑wrap). We strip (naslakhu; skin‑flay/peel) from it the day (al-nahār; river‑flow/daylight), so behold, they are in darkness (muẓlimūn; dark‑shade).
(36:38) And the sun runs (tajrī; flow/course) to a resting place (li-mustaqarrin; settled‑dwelling) for it. That is the decree (taqdīr; measuring‑out) of the Exalted in Might, the All-Knowing.
(36:39) And the moon (al-qamar; white‑brightness), We have determined for it (qaddarnāhu; measured‑stages) phases (manāzila; descending‑stops) until it returns (ʿāda; went‑back) like the old date stalk (ka-l-ʿurjūn al-qadīm; curved‑branch/withered‑stem).
(36:40) It is not allowable (lā yanbaghī; not‑seeking/fitting) for the sun to overtake (tudrika; catch‑up/grasp) the moon, nor does the night outstrip (sābiqu; racing‑ahead) the day. And each (wa-kullun; all‑parts) swims (yasbaḥūn; floating/gliding) in an orbit (falakin; whorl/celestial‑sphere).
The Sign of the Ark:
(36:41) And a sign for them is that We carried (ḥamalnā; bore‑load) their forefathers (dhurriyyatahum; scattered‑seed/offspring) in the loaded ship (al-fulk al-mashḥūn; ribbed‑vessel filled‑up).
(36:42) And We created (khalaqnā; shaped‑cut) for them from its likeness (mithlihi; standing‑match) that which they ride (yarkabūn; mount‑saddle).
(36:43) And if We will, We drown them (nughriqhum; immerse/sink), so there is no screaming helper (ṣarīkha; cry‑for‑aid) for them, nor are they saved (yunqadhūn; snatched‑away/rescued).
(36:44) Except as a mercy (raḥmatan; womb‑bond) from Us and enjoyment (matāʿan; utility/goods) for a time (ilā ḥīn; until‑season).
The Refusal of Charity and Resurrection:
(36:45) And when it is said to them, "Fear (ittaqū; guard‑shield) what is before you (bayna aydīkum; between‑hands/front) and what is behind you, that you may receive mercy (turḥamūn; womb‑bond)."
(36:46) And no sign comes to them (mā taʾtīhim min āyatin; mark/flag) from the signs of their Lord (āyāti rabbihim; master‑marks) except that they turn away (muʿriḍīn; presenting‑side/ignoring).
(36:47) And when it is said to them, "Spend (anfiqū; tunnel‑out/distribute) from what Allah has provided you (razaqakum; provisioned/rain)," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed (anuṭʿimu; taste‑food) one whom, if Allah willed, He would have fed? You are only in clear error (ḍalāl mubīn; lost‑way/straying)."
(36:48) And they say, "When is this promise (al-waʿd; appointment), if you are truthful?"
(36:49) They do not await (yanẓurūn; eye‑watch) except one blast (ṣayḥatan; thunder‑cry/shout) which will seize them (taʾkhudhuhum; grasp‑take) while they are disputing (yakhiṣṣimūn; antagonizing/quarreling).
(36:50) Then they will not be able (lā yastaṭīʿūn; obey‑capacity) to make a bequest (tawṣiyatan; joining‑command/will), nor to their people (ahl; tent‑family) will they return (yarjiʿūn; turn‑back).
The Resurrection Call:
(36:51) And the Horn (al-ṣūr; horn‑trumpet/form‑shaper) will be blown (nufikha; breath‑blown), and immediately from the graves (al-ajdāth; grave‑mounds) to their Lord (ilā rabbihim; master‑nurturer) they will hasten (yansilūn; flow‑quickly/trickle‑down).
(36:52) They will say, "Woe to us (yā waylanā; oh‑disaster/woe)! Who has raised us (baʿathanā; sent‑provoked/awakened) from our sleeping place (marqadinā; bed‑chamber)?" "This is what the Most Merciful promised (waʿada; appointment‑pledge), and the messengers spoke truth (ṣadaqa; hard‑truth)."
(36:53) It will not be but one blast (ṣayḥatan; thunder‑cry/shout), and immediately they all (jamīʿun; gathered‑mass) are brought present before Us (ladaynā muḥḍarūn; at‑hand attended/presented).
(36:54) So today no soul (nafs; breath‑self) will be wronged (tuẓlamu; darkened/oppressed) at all, and you will not be recompensed (lā tujzawna; repaid‑debt) except for what you used to do.
The Joy of Paradise:
(36:55) Indeed, the companions of Paradise (aṣḥāb al-jannah; garden‑enclosure) today are in occupation (fī shughulin; business/distraction), amused (fākihūn; fruit‑enjoying/jesting).
(36:56) They and their spouses (azwājuhum; mates/pairs) are in shade (ẓilāl; shadows/canopies), reclining (muttakiʾūn; leaning‑support) on raised couches (al-arāʾik; bridal‑thrones).
(36:57) For them therein is fruit (fākihah; rejoicing‑fruit) and for them is whatever they call for (yaddaʿūn; pray‑claim/summon).
(36:58) "Peace" (salāmun; wholeness/safety), a word (qawlan; speech) from a Merciful Lord.
The Judgment of the Guilty:
(36:59) "But stand apart (wa-imtāzū; split‑separate/distinguish) today, O you criminals (al-mujrimūn; cut‑off/sinners)."
(36:60) "Did I not enjoin upon you (aʿhad; covenant/bond), O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan (al-shayṭān; distant‑adversary/serpent)? Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy (ʿaduww mubīn; hostile‑aggressor)."
(36:61) "And that you worship Me? This is a straight path (ṣirāṭ mustaqīm; standing‑road)."
(36:62) "And he had already led astray (aḍalla; lost‑way) from among you a great multitude (jibillan; mountain‑crowd/nature‑throng). Did you not use reason (taʿqilūn; tie‑camel/restrain‑mind)?"
(36:63) "This is Hell (jahannam; deep‑pit) which you were promised."
(36:64) "Burn therein (iṣlawhā; roast/warm‑at‑fire) today for what you used to deny (takfurūn; cover‑seed/ingratitude)."
The Final Witness:
(36:65) Today We seal (nakhtimu; stamp‑ring/close) over their mouths, and their hands speak to Us (tukallimunā; wound‑speech), and their feet testify (tashhadu; witness‑presence) about what they used to earn (yaksibūn; gather‑gain/acquire).
(36:66) And if We willed, We could have obliterated (la-ṭamasnā; effaced/wiped‑blind) their eyes, then they would race (fa-istabaqū; compete‑run) to the path, but how could they see?
(36:67) And if We willed, We could have deformed them (la-masakhnāhum; twisted‑shape/transmuted) in their places, so they would not be able to proceed (muḍiyyan; passing‑forward) nor return.
The Reversal of Life:
(36:68) And whoever We grant long life (nuʿammirhu; life‑span/cultivate), We reverse him (nankishu; turn‑upside‑down/unravel) in creation (al-khalq; shaping/constitution). So will they not use reason (yaʿqilūn; tie‑camel/restrain‑mind)?
(36:69) And We did not teach him (ʿallamnāhu; marked‑sign) poetry (al-shiʿr; hair‑perceiving/feeling), nor is it fitting (yanbaghī; seeking/appropriate) for him. It is not but a remembrance (dhikrun; mention/pricking‑mind) and a clear Quran (qurʾān mubīn; reading‑gathering/manifest).
(36:70) To warn (li-yundhira; bare‑signaling) whoever is alive (ḥayyan; coiled‑snake/living‑movement) and that the Word (al-qawl; speech/verdict) may prove true (yaḥiqqa; land‑solidly) against the disbelievers (al-kāfirīn; seed‑coverers/ingrates).
The Sign of Livestock:
(36:71) Do they not see (yara; eye‑see) that We created (khalaqnā; shaped‑cut) for them from what Our hands have made (mimmā ʿamilat aydīnā; hand‑labored) grazing livestock (anʿāman; soft‑step/cattle), so they are their owners (mālikūn; grasping‑possessors)?
(36:72) And We tamed them (dhallalnāhā; lowered/made‑submissive) for them, so some of them are their mounts (rakūbuhum; riding‑saddle) and some of them they eat.
(36:73) And for them therein are benefits (manāfiʿ; useful‑yields) and drinks (mashārib; drinking‑places). So will they not give thanks (yashkurūn; full‑udder/thank)?
The Futility of False Gods:
(36:74) But they have taken (ittakhadhū; took‑for‑themselves) besides Allah gods (ālihatan; objects‑of‑worship), that perhaps they would be helped (yunṣarūn; aided/rain‑victory).
(36:75) They are not able (lā yastaṭīʿūn; obey‑capacity) to help them, but they are for them soldiers (jundun; army‑troop) brought present (muḥḍarūn; attended).
(36:76) So do not let their speech (qawluhum; word) grieve you (yaḥzunka; rough‑ground/sadness). Indeed, We know (naʿlamu; mark‑know) what they conceal (yusirrūn; secret‑whisper) and what they declare (yuʿlinūn; public‑open).
The Argument of Resurrection:
(36:77) Does man not see (alam yara; eye‑see) that We created him (khalaqnāhu; shaped‑cut) from a drop (min nuṭfatin; trickling‑fluid), then behold, he is a clear adversary (khaṣīm mubīn; quarrelsome‑opponent)?
(36:78) And he struck (ḍaraba; hit/cast) for Us a parable (mathalan; standing‑likeness) and forgot (nasiya; abandoned/forgot) his own creation. He said, "Who will give life (yuḥyī; breath‑revive) to the bones (al-ʿiẓām; skeletal‑frame) while they are crumbled dust (ramīm; decayed/rubble)?"
(36:79) Say, "He will give them life (yuḥyīhā; breath‑revive) who produced them (anshaʾahā; raised‑up/initiated) the first time (awwala marratin; first‑passage), and He is knowing of every creation."
(36:80) "He who made for you (jaʿala lakum; set‑placed) from the green tree (al-shajar al-akhḍar; moist‑wood) fire (nāran; heat‑light), so behold, you ignite from it (tūqidūn; kindle‑fuel)."
(36:81) "Is not He who created the heavens and the earth able (bi-qādirin; measuring‑power) to create the like of them? Yes, and He is the Knowing Creator (al-khallāq; supreme‑shaper)."
The Divine Command:
(36:82) His command (amruhu; matter/order) is only when He intends (arāda; sought/willed) a thing (shayʾan; willed‑object) that He says to it, "Be," (kun; exist/happen) and it is (fa-yakūn; so‑it‑becomes).
(36:83) So glory be (fa-subḥāna; floating‑praise/far‑removed) to Him in whose hand is the dominion (malakūt; kingdom/ownership) of all things, and to Him you will be returned (turjaʿūn; sent‑back).

Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Heart of the Qur'an: Surah Yasin is structurally central, balancing the mechanics of Prophethood (Risalah) with the physics of the Afterlife (Ma'ad).
Somatic Symbolism (v. 8): The imagery of aghlāl (yokes) and adhqān (chins) depicts a physicalization of pride; the denier is locked in a posture of looking "up" at their own ego, making them "head-stiffened" (muqmaḥūn) and unable to see the "straight path" below them.
Temporal Dynamics (v. 12): The record includes both mā qaddamū (active deeds) and āthārahum (passive traces/consequences). This establishes a causal chain where an individual is responsible for the historical ripples of their life.
Numerical Precision: The root √Ḥ-Ṣ-Y refers to counting with pebbles, suggesting that the "Clear Register" (Imāmim Mubīn) is not just a book, but a precise, quantized accounting of reality (Q 72:28).
Rhetorical Shift: The batch moves from the cosmic oath (v. 1-2) to the psychological pathology of denial (v. 7-10) and finally to the ultimate judicial reality (v. 12).

My apologies. In the rigorous micro-segmentation of the previous batch, was bypassed. Let us excavate this pivotal moment of rhetorical confrontation where the Messengers return the "omen" to its owners.
The Mirror of Fate
The Messengers diagnose the psychology of the city, stripping away the excuse of superstition.
[36:19.a] ক্ব-লূ ত্ব-ই'রুকুম মা'আকুম (قَالُوا طَائِرُكُم مَّعَكُمْ, qālū ṭāʾirukum maʿakum, "They said, 'Your omen is with you'"; √Ṭ-Y-R "Bird" · The bird's flight in the heart → Internal state; ∴ Your misfortune is a product of your own souls ⚒ [The Internal Omen] ∞ Fate is a mirror), [36:19.b] আইন যুক্কিরতুম (أَئِن ذُكِّرْتُم, a-ʾin dhukkirtum, "Is it because you are reminded?"; √DH-K-R "To sharpen/mention" · A tool for memory; ∴ Do you call truth 'bad luck' simply because it challenges you? ⚒ [The Sharp Reminder] ∞ Truth as an irritant), [36:19.c] বাল আন্তুম ক্বাওমুম মুসরিফুন (بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُونَ, bal antum qawmun musrifūna, "Nay, but you are a people transgressing"; √S-R-F "To overreach/waste" · Water overflowing a basin → Excess; ∴ Rebellion is not destiny, but a chosen waste of the self ⚒ [The Spilled Life] ∞ Boundless ego)
ﷲ: They said, "Your omen is with you. Is it because you are reminded? Nay, but you are a transgressing people."
ﷺ: "Tiyarah (superstition) is Shirk" [Abu Dawud]
Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Internalized Omen (19): The Messengers effectively "bounce" the superstition back. By saying "Your omen is with you," they suggest that the "bad luck" the city feels is actually the friction between their corrupt lives and the Truth.
The Root of Excess (Isrāf): The city is described as Musrifūn. In paleo-linguistics, this relates to overstepping boundaries (like water flooding a field). Their disbelief is framed not as intellectual doubt, but as a behavioral lack of restraint.
The arrival of the believer (traditionally Habib al-Najjar) who risks all to support the truth.
[20.a] ওয়াজ্বা-আ মিন আকস্বাল মাদীনাতি (وَجَاءَ مِنْ أَقْصَى الْمَدِينَةِ, wa-jāʾa min aqṣā l-madīnati, "And there came from the farthest end of the city"; √Q-Ṣ-Y "Remote" + √M-D-N "To dwell" · The distant horizon; ∴ Truth rising from the periphery ⚒ [The Distant Reach] ∞ Light from the edge), [20.b] রাজুলুঁ ইয়াশআ- (رَجُلٌ يَسْعَىٰ, rajulun yasʿā, "a man running"; √S-ʿ-Y "To move quickly/strive" · Brisk walking/running → Urgency; ∴ Sincere effort in the face of danger ⚒ [The Swift Foot] ∞ The soul's haste to God), [20.c] ক্ব-লা ইয়া- ক্বাওমিত তাবিউ'ল মুরসালীন (قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اتَّبِعُوا الْمُرْسَلِينَ, qāla yā-qawmi ttabiʿū l-mursalīn, "he said, 'O my people, follow the messengers'"; √T-B-ʿ "To follow/track" · Tracking footprints → Obedience; ∴ Advocacy for the truth from within the community ⚒ [The Loyal Track] ∞ Guiding one's own)
ﷲ: And there came from the farthest end of the city a man running. He said, "O my people, follow the messengers."
ﷺ: "The best of people is the one who is most beneficial to them" [Tabarani]
Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Omens (18): The disbelievers used taṭayyur (augury), a practice of looking at birds to decide fate. They projected their own internal corruption onto the Messengers, claiming their presence brought bad luck.
The Limit of the Message (17): The "Clear Notification" (Balāgh) is a key Qur'anic concept. It establishes that a guide's only job is clarity; the choice to believe belongs to the listener.
Habib al-Najjar (20): Classical exegesis identifies this "running man" as Habib, a carpenter. His "running" (yasʿā) indicates an urgency that contrasts with the stagnant, comfortable rebellion of the city elite.
The Shout (29): The destruction of the city is described as a single "Shout" (Ṣayḥah). This is a kinetic sound-wave that "extinguishes" (khāmidūn) life like a candle, showing the fragility of human power.

Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Paradigm of Habit: This section introduces the "Believer of Yā-Sīn," a socio-political underdog (from the "farthest end of the city") who uses pure logic to challenge the elite.
Economic Disinterestedness: Verse 21 establishes a core Qur’anic criterion for truth: the lack of a "wage" (ajran). Authenticity is proven by the absence of a transaction (Q 42:23).
The Logic of Fitrah: Verse 22 appeals to the fitrah (innate nature), using the verb faṭara (to cleave/originate), suggesting that worship is the natural consequence of being "split into existence" by a Creator.
Intercession (Shafāʿah): The root √SH-F-ʿ (to pair) suggests that false gods cannot "pair" themselves with the soul to provide weight or protection during the Divine trial.
The Fatal Declaration: Verse 25 is the climax of his testimony, a public declaration (’imān) that traditionally leads to his martyrdom, shifting the scene from the earthly plane to the celestial.

Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Post-Mortem Compassion: Verse 26 highlights a profound ethical point: the martyr’s first thought in Paradise is not revenge, but the wish that his killers could see the truth. This mirrors the prophetic character of "wishing for others what you wish for yourself."
The Single Shout (Ṣayḥah): The destruction of the city is described as a "single shout" (√Ṣ-Y-Ḥ). Linguistically, this implies a sonic or vibrational event that "cleaves" the air or the heart. It contrasts the "longing" of the martyr with the "shriek" of the end.
Extinguishment (Khāmidūn): The use of √KH-M-D (extinguished fire) is a potent paleo-metaphor. Life is heat and light; death via Divine wrath is the sudden cooling and darkening of that biological fire.
Hasratan (Regret/Stripping): Verse 30 begins with a Divine or cosmic lament. Hasrah is etymologically related to "stripping bare." Regret is the feeling of being naked and exposed before the truth one previously mocked.
Historical Cycle: The verse establishes that mockery (huzū') is the universal reaction of the "ego-bound" to the "Spirit-sent," creating a recurring pattern of human tragedy.

ﷲ: Exalted is He who created all pairs—from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know.
ﷺ: "Everything has been created in pairs" [General Prophetic Commentary]
Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Gushing Springs (34): The term fajjarnā implies a violent, energetic "breaking open." It suggests that the water is held back by the earth's structure until the divine command releases the pressure, turning the "eyes" ('uyūn) of the earth into flowing sources.
The Critique of Labor (35): "Their hands did not make it" (mā 'amilat-hu aydīhim) is a radical de-centering of the farmer. While humans plant and irrigate, they do not "create" the DNA of the seed or the physics of growth.
The Law of Pairs (36): This verse predates the scientific discovery of biological sexuality in plants and the existence of subatomic particles (matter/antimatter). It establishes duality (azwāj) as the fundamental "code" of the created universe, contrasting it with the absolute Oneness (Tawḥīd) of the Creator.
The "Unknown" Pairs: The inclusion of "what they do not know" leaves the text open for every era to discover new dualities—from magnetic poles to the complex dual-nature of light.

ﷲ: And the moon - We have determined for it phases, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk.
ﷺ: "The sun and moon are two of the signs of Allah; they do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone." [Bukhari]
Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
Solar Kineticism: Verse 38 uses tajrī (flows/runs). Historically interpreted as its daily path, modern exegesis often notes the sun's motion within the galaxy toward the "Solar Apex" (mustaqarr).
The Measure (Taqdīr): Everything in the cosmos is "potted" or "measured" (√Q-D-R). There is no "chaos," only "decree" manifested as physical law.
The Urjūn Metaphor: The comparison of the thin crescent to a withered date stalk (urjūn) is a classic paleo-image. It captures the texture (withered), the color (yellowish-white), and the curvature of the lunar phase.
Manāzil (Waystations): This refers to the Lunar Mansions (28 stations). In Bedouin archaeology, these were the "inns" of the sky used for navigation and timekeeping.
Dual Nature: The sun is described by Might/Knowledge (Power), while the moon is described by Stages/Return (Cycle). Together, they represent the "Twin Hands" of time.

ﷲ: And a sign for them is that We carried their forefathers in the laden ship.
ﷺ: "The likeness of my household is that of Noah's Ark; whoever boards it is saved" [Al-Hakim]
Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
Generational Ruin (31): The term qurūn (generations) literally implies "horns," suggesting the strength and prominence of past civilizations that were nonetheless broken.
The Flaying of the Day (37): The word naslakhu (to skin/flay) is a radical somatic metaphor. It suggests that "Daylight" is merely a thin skin over the primordial "Darkness" of the universe, which Allah peels back every evening.
Celestial Swimming (40): Yasbaḥūn (swimming/gliding) beautifully describes the lack of friction in space. The falak (orbit) was linguistically related to the whorl of a spindle, indicating circularity.
The Laden Ship (41): Al-fulk al-mashḥūn refers to the Ark being packed to capacity. It emphasizes that humanity’s survival through the Flood was a "carrying" by God, not just a feat of engineering.

ﷺ: "Verily, Allah has one hundred parts of mercy... and by one part, creatures are kind to each other" [Muslim]
Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
Technological "Likes" (42): Mim-mithlihī (of its like) suggests that all subsequent human inventions for travel—whether camels, horses, cars, or planes—are structural extensions of the original Ark concept. They are "measured" (khalaqnā) into the laws of physics.
The Screamer (43): Ṣarīkh is a highly specific term. It doesn't just mean a helper; it means the responder to a scream. Allah describes a state of isolation at sea where the scream exists but the "responder" is divinely blocked.
Mercy as Buoyancy (44): The text transitions from the physical mechanics of sinking (gharaq) to the metaphysical concept of Raḥmah (Mercy). It implies that wood and iron don't float by their own merit, but by a "Mercy" that suspends the laws of gravity/density.
The Dimensional Caution (45): "Before" and "Behind" are often interpreted by Al-Ṭabarī and others as the Dunyā (world) and the Ākhirah (hereafter). It is a call to be vigilant of the visible traps and the invisible consequences.

Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Sleeping Place (52): The term Marqad (place of reclining/sleep) suggests that compared to the intensity of the Resurrection, the state of the grave—even with its trials—is perceived as a temporary rest. It highlights the subjective nature of time in the afterlife.
The Mercy Pivot (52): Intriguingly, the disbelievers use the name Ar-Raḥmān (The Merciful) in their moment of terror. This indicates a final, inescapable recognition of the Divine Attribute that sustained them while they were ungrateful.
The Sonic Shout (53): Again, Ṣayḥah is the kinetic driver. The "shout" that killed the city (v. 29) is the same "shout" that summons the assembly (v. 53), emphasizing the "Singularity" of Divine Power.
No Wronging (54): Ẓulm literally means "to put something in the wrong place." Divine Justice is the "Correction" where every deed is returned to its rightful owner and every consequence is perfectly fitted to its cause.

ﷺ: "In Paradise there are things which no eye has seen, no ear has heard" [Bukhari]
Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Stingy Logic (47): The disbelievers use a perverted "Divine Will" argument—if God wanted the poor to have food, He would provide it. They ignore that God’s will is expressed through His command to humans to act as agents of provision.
The Single Shout (49): Ṣayḥah is not just a sound; it is a physical event that terminates biological life and later re-initiates it. It emphasizes the effortless power of the Divine Word.
The Trumpet Breath (51): The Ṣūr (Trumpet/Horn) is the kinetic instrument of the Resurrection. The term yansilūn (hastening) describes a sliding, downhill rush, suggesting the power of the divine "gravity" pulling souls toward the Reckoning.
Amusing Occupation (55): Shughul usually means "work" or "toil," but in the context of Paradise, it refers to a "busy-ness" that is entirely pleasurable—so intense that the horrors of the Day of Judgment are completely forgotten.

Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Etymology of Joy (57): The word Fākihah (fruit) is linguistically inseparable from Fakahah (glee/humor). In the Paleo-Arabic mind, fruit was not just a staple but a luxury that brought immediate happiness. In Paradise, this sweetness is the baseline of existence.
The Calling (Yadda'ūn): This is the intensive form of du'ā. It suggests a world where the gap between "thought/call" and "attainment" is closed. Unlike the world, where one must labor (yas'ā) to get what they want, here the object "comes" to the caller.
Somatic Fulfillment: After the "reclining" (mut-taki'ūn) of the previous verse, this verse addresses the "senses." It confirms that the peace of Paradise is not a static void, but a dynamic state of perpetual satisfaction.

Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Primeval Covenant (60): Aʿhad refers to a solemn charge. It implies that the warning against Satan is not just external through prophets, but "hardwired" into the human conscience (Fiṭrah).
The Mountain of People (62): Jibillan is a fascinating word. It relates to Jabal (mountain), suggesting that the number of people led astray throughout history is so large it forms a geological-scale mass.
The Frowning Pit (63): Jahannam is linguistically linked to a "gloomy face" or a "deep well." It portrays Hell as a sentient, frowning abyss that consumes those who rejected the "Straight Path" (Ṣirāṭ Mustaqīm).
The Straightening (64): Iṣlawhā (burn/roast) often carries the connotation of a branch being held over fire to straighten it. It suggests the Fire is a place where the "bent" soul is forcefully confronted with the "straight" reality it denied.
The Anatomy of Testimony

ﷲ: This day We seal over their mouths, and their hands speak to Us, and their feet testify about what they used to earn.
ﷺ: "The servant will argue with his Lord, and his limbs will be made to speak of his deeds" [Muslim]
Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
Intimacy and Shade (56): The mention of azwāj (spouses) and ẓilāl (shades) emphasizes that Paradise is a restoration of communal and environmental perfection. The "reclining" (mut-taki'ūn) signifies the end of the "running" (yas'ā) required in the world.
The Divine Salutation (58): This is the climax of the believer's journey—receiving the Salām directly from the Lord. It signifies that the peace is not just an environment, but a personal communication.
The Sifting (59): Wamtāzū is a powerful kinetic command. In the world, believers and disbelievers are intermingled; on this Day, the "shaking" of the assembly causes the two groups to physically separate.
Anatomical Betrayal (65): The "seal" on the mouth represents the failure of the logical, defensive mind. In its place, the body—which was the instrument of sin—reveals the truth through its physical memory.

Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
Sensory Embargo (66-67): The rhetoric shifts from historical narrative to immediate ontological threat. Allah describes the "effacement" (ṭams) of eyes and the "fixity" (maskh) of posture as a potential reality for the defiant. It underscores that human movement and perception are continuous divine grants, not inherent rights.
The Inversion of Strength (68): The term nunakkishu (reversing/inverting) refers to the geriatric decline where a human returns to an infant-like state—physically doubled over and cognitively fragile. This serves as a biological proof of the soul's dependency.
Poetry vs. Prophecy (69): 7th-century Arabs viewed poets as being inspired by jinn. The Qur'an dissociates the Prophet from the aesthetic whims of poetry, defining his speech as Dhikr (an objective, sharp Reminder) rather than subjective art.
The Livestock Sign (71-73): The transition to an'ām (livestock) highlights the "subservience" (tadhllīl) of beasts. The fact that a small human can lead a massive camel or slaughter a powerful bull is presented as a "taming" by the Divine Hand, specifically designed for human manāfi' (benefits).
The Irony of Shirk (74-75): A biting rhetorical reversal—humans take gods to be helped, yet these humans end up acting as "soldiers" (jund) or guardians for their idols, serving the very things that should serve them.

Exegesis / Explanatory Notes
The Adversarial Drop (77): The Qur'an uses the word nuṭfah (a humble drop) to contrast with khaṣīm (a fierce, loud debater). It highlights the irony of a creature, whose physical origin is a weak fluid, using its granted intellect to challenge the very Power that fashioned it.
The Dry Bone Argument (78-79): This refers to the historical incident of Ubayy ibn Khalaf crumbling a decayed bone and asking if it could live. The response—"He will give them life Who produced them the first time"—establishes the "Logic of the Origin." Reconstruction is easier than the initial creation of nothingness.
The Green Tree Paradox (80): In the ancient ANE, the Markh and ʿAfār trees were known to produce fire even when green/wet when rubbed together. This is a profound metaphor: if Allah can store "Fire" (energy/death) inside "Greenery" (water/life), He can certainly bring Life out of the dry, "fire-like" dust of the grave.
Scale of Difficulty (81): The verse uses the rhetorical question of the heavens (samāwāt) vs. the human (mislahum). If the vast, complex cosmic structure is within His power, the tiny human "template" is easily replicated.
The Khallāq (81): This intensive form of Khāliq suggests a "Prodigious, Continuous Creator" who is constantly bringing things into being, negating the idea of a retired deity.

The Sovereignty of the Command
The surah concludes by stripping away poetic artifice and grounding all existence in the singular, kinetic Will.

Somatic Jurisprudence (v. 65): The "sealing" (khatm) of the mouth is a reversal of the human experience. In this life, the mouth lies and the limbs obey in silence. In the Hereafter, the mouth is silenced and the limbs—having "stored" the kinetic history of deeds—release that information.
The Physics of Kun (v. 82): Kun ("Be") is not just a word; it is the fundamental "bit" of reality. It represents the point where the Divine Will (Irādah) becomes manifest existence (Kawn).
Malakūt (v. 83): The intensive form of Mulk (dominion). While Mulk refers to the outward kingdom, Malakūt refers to the inner, spiritual dimension and the hidden blueprints of all things.
The Exalted Glide: Subḥān comes from √S-B-Ḥ (swimming/floating). It depicts God as being completely unburdened, floating far above the gravity of human limitation or the "shirk" of ascribing partners.
